Two years ago, after an investigation here and in Kenya, we published a series of reports on the unsolved murder of a 21-year-old Kenyan woman, Agnes Wanjiru, near an army base. She was last seen leaving a bar with a British soldier. Another soldier from the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment was shown her body by her alleged killer, who is said to have confessed to fellow soldiers, but there the story might have ended. The murder investigation was held up by Kenya’s death penalty: Britain would not agree to the extradition of a suspect who could face capital punishment.
